BroadGrain’s Commitment to Giving Back: A step forward in Jimba-Oja, Nigeria

BroadGrain’s commitment to giving back to the communities it serves is a value BroadGrain family is committed to. This took place in Jimba-Oja, a once undeveloped stretch of land that has now blossomed into an agricultural project. The transformation began with a partnership signed on November 25, 2023, between BroadGrain and the University of Ilorin. The initiative aims to advance agricultural education and development in Nigeria, with the vision of creating opportunities for local communities and make way for practical agricultural education. The “Jimba-Ojah” farm became a key element of this partnership, with BroadGrain’s expertise and resources dedicated to turning the land into a prosperous agricultural project. From its earliest days, the project aimed to not only cultivate crops but also empower local communities through employment, knowledge transfer, and fair labor practices. By collaborating with the University of Ilorin, BroadGrain brought together academic innovation and farming expertise to create a sustainable foundation for growth.

The impact of this partnership became evident with “Jimba-Ojah’s” first successful harvest. This step is not just about agricultural progress—it is a testament to the resilience of the local community, the power of collaboration, and the impact of meaningful partnerships. Peter Groski, senior grain buyer, representing BroadGrain Canada, worked closely with the BroadGrain Nigeria team to bring this vision to life. Reflecting on the achievement, Peter shared: “Jimba-Ojah’s first harvest is underway. Every challenge we have faced has been overcome. We have employed up to 15 people (men and women) and ensured they are all paid the same. We have given back to the communities we operate in, and we can see the positive impact we have made in their lives. The potential for farming in Nigeria is immense, and BroadGrain is the perfect partner to help them realize their own potential.”

This is more than a successful harvest; it is a symbol of progress and hope for the future. The “Jimba-Ojah” farm embodies the essence of giving back, empowering people, fostering equality, and building strong partnerships. By creating employment opportunities and ensuring fair wages for all employees, regardless of gender, the project helps strengthen the economic foundation of the local community and inspire change for future generations.

Peter Gorski – “BroadGrain is the perfect partner to help them realize their own potential.” And in a heartfelt acknowledgment of his role, he added, “I’m so grateful for the opportunity to contribute to a project like this.”

This statement reflects the heart of BroadGrain’s mission: to empower communities to thrive alongside us, overcoming challenges and celebrating shared successes.
